When I wrote about "fiction" in Maximum City, I should have explained myself better. I did not mean made-up in the sense that parts of it did not happen. I absolutely know that that is not so.
I guess I have a rather strange definition of fiction. I meant "made-up" in the sense that Suketu Mehta's reactions, so present in the book, are so beautiful and dream-like. And things that actually happened often do feel like that. They are just not often represented as well as they are in Maximum City.
Maybe with all the revelations lately about memoirs that were falsified my language was too risky. I only meant to complement the book. Maybe talking about it as intensely "literary" would have been better.
